Happy Weekend- What Time Is It

So this is the first weekend in three years where I haven't either had something to do for grad school, or have been thinking about something I need to do for grad school. I'm done! I have that "its summer!!!!" feeling which I haven't had in forever.

Besides wrapping up my masters degree, here's what else happened this week:

I shared my getting dressed for a date tips- Gentlemen Callers
and celeb fitness tips- Just Workin on My Fitness

As for movies:
In theaters:
The Avengers opened this week. Getting great reviews. Fanboys and Fangirls rejoice!
Think Like A Man is STILL doing well.
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is also out this week. How do we feel about seeing this if you are under the age of 60?

Rental:
Let's reflect on Zac's early days as a teen idol before his all grown up love scenes in The Lucky One.
Hairspray, obviously.
17 Again is surprisingly cute and funny.
All three High School Musicals are fantastic, although the second one is by far my favorite. Thanks to Troy and the rest of the gang for expressing my feelings on wrapping up school and the start of summer!

Happy Weekend- Just Got Paid

Oh man, are weekends the best or what? This is the first weekend in forever where I haven't had major plans or had to work. And it feels so great! Also, yesterday was payday which meant I spent the evening humming "Just got paid, Friday night, party hoppin, feelin right." Except I was just going to my parents house for dinner.

And this morning I had to immediately find this clip on youtube. It's everything remember it being and more!

As soon as I started watching it I realized I remember all of the words AND the dance moves! How cool is the girl (who they picked out of the audience!!) who subtly puts her arm around JC as they're dancing?! She was my role model for years.

Looking for movies to watch this weekend?

In theaters:
The Hunger Games- I've seen it twice. You should probably see it at least once to see what all the hype is about.
The Lucky One- going tonight! Review will be posted soon.
The Five Year Engagement-getting great reviews. A lot of people are comparing it to Forgetting Sarah Marshall! Hoping to see it Sunday night with my boo.
Think Like A Man- making serious $ at the box office, so that's promising
Chimpanzee- a baby chimpanzee who loses his mommy?? I've cried enough recapping the Royal Wedding, no thanks.

To rent:
I loved 30 Rock Live this week, so in honor of a few the stars, and guest stars . .
Baby Mama- whenever I tell people this movie is hilarious they're like "ehh" and then they watch it and are like "omg! so funny!"
Date Night - worth it for the pairing of Fey and Carrell
Fever Pitch- seriously, such an underrated rom-com. I love this movie!
The Town - implausible, but still awesome. Jon Hamm looks great but Blake Lively's absurd Boston accident is laughable. Also, Ben Affleck, yay.

All totally rent worthy.

Happy weekend!

The CFC Awards

After bidding adieu to awards season I realized there was one ceremony left- my own! What's the point of having a blog about movies without getting to hand out a few (faux) movie awards of your own? So, I present to you

The CFC Movie Awards

Criteria: The movies we're talking about were released in 2011 (and conveniently for you, many of them are available for rental right now!) Personally, I'm much more about specific movie lines or quotes or moments. I will describe to you my favorite part of any favorite movie if you want to listen. ( Most people don't.) So we're awarding movie moments-not performances, scripts, art direction, etc.

Best Kiss- hands down, Hannah (Emma Stone) and Jacob (Ryan Gosling) in Crazy, Stupid, Love. In a matter of minutes, Hannah slams down her drink, breaks up with her douchey boyfriend, and is making out with NoahCalhoun in a bar. Awesome.

Best Please Pass the Tissues Moment- I would say the entire 2 hours and 26 minutes of The Help but I did say moments so I will go with the very beginning where Aibileen lifts Mae Mobley out of the crib and says for the first time " You is kind, you is smart, you is important." Oh god, I'm tearing up just typing that. I loved the book so, so much and as soon as that happened I just knew the movie was going to be wonderful.

Best LOL- Ok so I know Melissa McCarthy was hilarious and all but I really don't think Kristen Wig and Rose Byrne got enough attention for their wonderful frenemies chemistry in Bridesmaids. I laughed and cried the entire movie, but the part when I really lost it was at the bridal shower. When Helen gives Lillian a trip to Paris and Annie has finally had enough. "Are you f***ing kidding me?!" she yells. That turns into one long hilarious rant which wraps up with Annie confronting Lillian about her... um, bleaching. Anyways, I think we've all felt like just standing up and yelling " Are you kidding me?!" Expletives or not.

Best Swoonworthy Conversation- Okay it involves Justin Timberlake. Does that surprise you? Anyways, there's this part in Friends With Benefits when Dylan and Jamie are trading compliments and first impressions before they actually get down to business.
Dylan: I liked your eyes. I didn't think I'd ever seen such big beautiful eyes.
Jamie: And your lips. Yeah, thought you might be a good kisser.
Dylan: I am.
Jamie: I liked your hands.
Dylan: Mouth.
Jamie: Butt.
Dylan: Voice.
Jamie: Chest.
Dylan: Eyes.
Jamie: You said that.
Dylan: I meant it.
It looks dumb written out but it is SO cute in person. In person? Did I just put myself in a romantic comedy? Oops.

Best Falling In Love Sequence- Nothing irritated me more than when my facebook feed the night after the Oscars was filled with people saying "A silent movie won best picture! F that!" Sorry, so much cursing tonight. Just see The Artist, okay? Then you can complain (not in silence!) all you'd like. Anyways, there's this really lovely scene when George Valentin and Peppy Miller share a dance as he is filming a new movie. He keeps losing track of what he is supposed to do next as he dances with her for a bit longer each take. Its so sweet and funny and of course now I'm in love with George too.

Best Dance- Footloose came out on DVD last week and of course I immediately needed to watch it. I must say, I was appalled with how cheesy it was! What a difference 5 months and a birthday make! Actually, I know I thought it was absurd the first time around but I still adored the line dancing scene. And Ren McCormick. And red cowboy boots.

Best Musical Interlude-Have you seen Country Strong? It's okay, most people didn't. I thought it was highly underrated. A great cast and great new country songs! Especially this number between the very dreamy Garrett Hedlund as Beau Hutton and Leighton Meester as Chiles Stanton.

Best Style- This is Chick Flick Chic after all. Maybe it's because I'm enjoying the warmer weather, but I'd like to award this to Something Borrowed. The things I didn't enjoy about the book continued to bother me in the movie. Sleeping with your best friend's fiancee is just wrong, I don't care if she's a bitch. Also why is Rachel such a doormat? Kate Hudson and John Krasinksi were adorable though and totally stole the show as Darcy and Ethan. And I LOVED Darcy's summer in the city/weekends in the Hamptons wardrobe.

Speaking of style, if I'm hosting an awards show then I need a kickass dress. I've been really into Elie Saab on the red carpet lately so I've selected this gown from the Spring 2012 collection. The color, the sequins, the high slit (no Angelina pose, I promise.) I die.

And the final two awards of the evening-
Actor of the Year- Ryan Gosling. Sexy, confident, and crazy in love in Stupid Crazy Love. Intense, passionate and calculating in The Ides of March. Strong, silent, and often very bloody in Drive. It still isn't over NoahCalhoun!

Actress of the Year- Emma Stone. Crazy Stupid Love, Friends with Benefits and the Help. Possibly my three favorite movies of the year. And to think it all started when she turned down Jonah Hill in Superbad.

So, that's all folks. And I won't talk about awards season again! Until the Emmys of course. Only 6 months away . . .

Weekend Rentals- 2/17/12

TGIF! Is it just me or are weeks in a short month like February particularly long? Does anyone have any fun plans for the weekend? If you're thinking of renting a movie, I'm continuing on with a look back at recent Oscar nominees and winners, this Friday from 2009:

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button- Now if you've already seen this once... I'm not sure if its necessary to see it again. It's kind of exhausting to sit through an entire lifetime- backwards. But if you haven't seen it, it really is great.

Slumdog Millionaire- won Best Picture, totally deserved it

Changeling- creepy, mysterious, based on true events, Angelina wears cute 1930's hats

Doubt- One of those movies where you say "hmm not a lot happened but the acting was phenomenal!"

The Dark Knight- a fantastic blockbuster of a film, and obviously Heath's performance is legendary

The Duchess- this won for best costume design and Keira Knightly really is lovely

Have a great weekend!

Weekend Rentals- 2/10/12

Another weekend, another list of movie rental recommendations from the 2008 Oscars!

As I was perusing this list, I realized that I missed out on seeing many of the nominated movies that year. I skimmed my journal and realized why- 2008 was a HUGE year for romantic comedies- 27 Dresses, Made of Honor, Definitely Maybe, Forgetting Sarah Marshall AND Sex and the City were released. So you can guess where I spent the majority of my time in the movie theater. Anyways, on to Oscar nominated flicks, viewed and recommended by me, when I wasn't sobbing over Mr. Big:

Atonement- utterly depressing, but impressively gorgeous. James McAvoy is wonderful.

Juno- Diablo Cody's witty, quirky, touching script and the entire cast is perfection.

" Look, in my opinion, the best thing you can do is find a person who loves you for exactly what you are. Good mood, bad mood, ugly, pretty, handsome, what have you, the right person is still going to think the sun shines out your ass. That's the kind of person that's worth sticking with."

Ratatouille- Not the best Pixar movie, but isn't every one pretty great anyway?

Enchanted- one of my favorite Disney movies of all time. If you lived with me this year (Tia, Meg, Lauren) chances are you heard me singing "How Do You Know" or "Happy Working Song" oh, about a million times.

Have a great weekend!

Weekend Rentals- 2/3/12

What to rent this weekend? Check out some movies that were recognized at the 2007 Oscars!

Little Miss Sunshine- When I first saw this I was with my boyfriend (who was not at all my boyfriend at the time.) He told me I was laughing so hard he was afraid I was going to pass out. But seriously, that scene with the stuck horn on the minivan?! Lol!

The Devil Wears Prada- Obviously Meryl's performance. But also- Stanely Tucci, Emily Blunt, the makeover?!? The scene where Miranda Priestly says "Oh, don't be silly - EVERYONE wants this. Everyone wants to be us." How many times can you see this movie? Never enough!

Dreamgirls- Okay, a little long-winded. But Eddie Murphy steals the show- even from Jennifer Hudson. Except for the "I'm Telling You" big performance. When I saw this movie, the entire theater burst into applause. Totally necessary.

An Inconvenient Truth- Why does it 70 degrees in January in 2012? Al Gore knew five years ago!

Happy Feet- Penguins who tap dance. I'll take it.

The Prestige- I freaking LOVE this movie. Suspenseful, magical, melodramatic and a little bit creepy. Just thinking about the end gives me goosebumps. Also, Hugh Jackman vs. Christian Bale. Yes.

Happy Weekend!
