Bond is Back, and so is Miranda Priestly

First, two new trailers to watch:

Skyfall

The third (and perhaps final) Bond movie with Daniel Craig.  I love everything about this trailer, especially the “Murder? Employment” exchange and the shot of Bond in a tux in some sort of Chinese gondola?!

Les Miserables

I blogged about this a few weeks ago, and conveniently the trailer has arrived!  I think its going to amazing.  I couldn’t help but wonder why Anne decided to chop off her hair?  Surely she could have found a Fantine-in-prostitution wig somewhere.  I’ve decided she’s really gunning for a Supporting Actress Oscar.  The Academy is always impressed by dramatic weight loss or gain, and de-beautifying yourself.  Right Charlize, Hilary and Nicole?

Lauren Weisberger has announced a sequel to The Devil Wear’s Prada book that will be released in 2013!  Honestly, I think DWP is one of the very few instances where the movie was better than the book.  I mean, to see those clothes on the big screen . . . also the performances are fantastic.  But I will definitely read the book if only to optimistically prepare myself for a possible movie sequel?!?  What are the chances they can get Anne, Meryl, Emily and Stanley back together?  Oh man, I can only hope I’ll be breathlessly blogging about the trailer release for Revenge Wears Prada in 2014!

That’s all.

I Must Confess- Part II

3 more confessions for you today:

1) I've finally realized that I am just too damn old to buy a cheap bathing suit.  I used to feel like, what is the point?  You cavort around in the sand and the saltwater and the peed-in pools- is it really worth it to spend $100+ on that thing?  Well, after a few weeks of trying on bikinis in Target and TJ Maxx I was practically despondent.  "I'm just going to wear this," I whined, selecting a duvet cover from the home goods section. "Just wrap me up and this and roll me out to the beach."  Then, on a whim, I decided to try on a few suits in a department store.  Hallelujah!  They actually fit!  Nothing gave me saggy butt or sausage arms or pancake chest.  I nearly broke out into a Bootylicious dance in the dressing room. I gladly handed over my credit card for the chance to sing "I don't think you can handle this!"

2) My least favorite blog posts to write are movie reviews. Which is weird because I started this blog to write movie reviews.  I guess in the end I just wanted to write about chick flicks and Christmas and pop culture.  I love going to movies and I'm more than happy to recommend to you what to see.  I just feel like everyone has such different taste that each review should come with several disclaimers.  "If you're between the ages of 18-22" or "if you're my mom" or "if you think Sex and the City is the greatest movie of our time."
(P.S. SATC is the greatest movie of our time)

Basically if you really want to know whether or not you would enjoy a movie- just ask!  You can text me, email me, tweet me, etc.  Also I've added a search bar to the right side of the blog.  You can type in any movie to see if I've reviewed it.

3) When I was between the ages of 18-22 I was kind of a book snob.  Blame AP English or my liberal arts education but I used to turn up my nose at anything that I didn't think was "of literary merit."  My English teacher used that phrase to describe acceptable reading material for us.  Basically I was reading A LOT of  Margaret Atwood.  Last night I glanced at my nightstand to see the Hunger Games trilogy, 50 Shades of Grey, and an Emily Giffin book.  Why am I turning into a desperate housewife?  Have you read the newest Nicholas Sparks book?

No but seriously, have you?  Because you know I'll be in theaters as soon as the movie comes out.

Anything you'd like to confess today?  Any reading recommendations (frivolous or not?)

What to Expect When You're Expecting Review

What to expect if you're expecting to see What to Expect When You're Expecting:

- A lot of beautiful people- JLo, Cameron Diaz, Brooklyn Decker and the fairest of them all- Nate Archibald

- Lots of Atlanta scenes! 3 cheers for a romantic comedy set outside of NYC

- A little too much "men aren't ready for fatherhood, want to be a cool dad, and wish they were still single" jokes. Come on guys, grow up.

- 3 supporting actors from Bridesmaids- Ben Falcone (the air marshall), Rebel Wilson (the British roommate), and Wendi McClendon-Covey (the frazzled mom bridesmaid.)  All very funny, again!

- A few totally gross out but totally laugh out loud moments.  Pregnancy- its apparently hilarious.

-A few teary eyed moments.  Babies- apparently they're pretty cute.

- At least one glance at your watch.  The movie is just a tad too long.

-A fun, sweet, and different take on the ensemble romantic comedy.

The Dictator Review

In my humble opinion, here's what happened with the making of the Dictator: Sacha Baron Cohen wanted to make another outrageous, offensive, hilarious, "Americans think they're so civilized but the jokes on you!" mockumentary. And movie execs were like "Ehhh."

So they combined the general idea of Borat and Bruno and made another "clueless and annoying foreigner makes his way to America" movie, but this time entirely scripted and with a romantic comedy twist. And then poor Sacha promoted the hell out of it on every Kabletown NBC Universal venue possible. Including dumping ashes on Ryan Seacrest and being interviewed not once, but twice on The Today Show where the entire crew referred to him as "The Dictator." Awkward.

So does the movie work? Sometimes. It was certainly outrageous and at times very funny- definitely some lol moments. But I didn't come out of the theater saying "Well that was hilarious!" I think Ryan Seacrest knows the feeling.

Gatsby, What Gatsby?

THIS. IS. HAPPENING. The trailer for Baz Luhrman's The Great Gatsby has arrived online. About an hour ago, I think. All I know is I was getting out of the shower and checking twitter (priorities, obviously) and I saw a cryptic tweet about the trailer. I sprinted to my computer and watched it 5 times in a row. The clothes! The music! The parties! ( I would embed, but I don't think I'm able to and there's no time for that so you can click before.)

When Daisy said "Gatsby, what Gatsby?" I got a terrible case of goosebumps. I squealed out loud when I saw Gatsby looking all pained and awkward out of the rain. The shirts! I actually started to tear up. " It makes me sad because I've never seen such-such beautiful shirts before."

I'm beside myself with excitement!

Happy Monday- Another date with Elton John

Happy Monday! I hope your weekend was filled with sunshine, new movies, fun date nights

and crying over Kristen Wiig

Sidenote: I really feel that Kristen and Jason Sudekis had a moment there. I know he's with Olivia Wilde but wouldn't they make a kickass couple? Being CFC means wishing everyone was in love with whomever you deem to be their soul mate.

A quick recap of what I've been up to lately:

We talked floral footwear and musicals- April Showers and May Flowers
and celebrity couples and their style choices- A Date with Elton John
I traveled to DC
and Baltimore
I saw The Avengers once
but reviewed it twice.
And I previewed summer's most anticipated flicks

The biggest news of last week was this preview for Mindy Kaling's new show- which will be on Fox this fall! Not only does it look amazing but it provides us with even more reasons that Mindy and I are destined to be BFFs. Case in point:

First, Chris Messina (aka Amy Adam's hubby in Julie and Julia) makes a "date with Elton John" joke at Mindy's outfit. Guess who made a date with Elton John joke FIVE DAYS before this trailer was released? Moi! Next, "Right now, your life is not a romantic comedy!" warns Mindy's friend. Maybe because she was trying to APPLY THE RULES OF A ROMANTIC COMEDY TO EVERYDAY LIFE?!?!!?

Seriously Mindy, call me, text me . . . we can gchat?

CFC Summer Movie Preview

It's that time of year again. Where moviegoers across the nation flock to the theater to escape the heat, summer boredom, and their annoying house guests. Unlike late December and early January where we are inundated with gloomy independent films or sweeping epics as Oscar bait, summer movies have one goal: make the big bucks. Therefore providing us with with some killer trailers (Amanda Woods style) and some highly entertaining movies. And that's what we're all about here at Chick Flick Chic. So here's a rundown of what to expect this summer, categorized by my immediate reaction when I saw the trailer.

"OMFG this is my new favorite movie!" (otherwise known as MTAD)

Rock of Ages- June 15
As I told you in January, this will probably be the greatest movie I've ever seen in my life.

Magic Mike- June 29
Men have been treated to movies about female strippers for far too long. It's our turn.

Snow White and the Huntsman- June 1
How creepy and gorgeous is Charlize?

Seeking a Friend for the End of the World- June 22
I get a Garden State meets Armageddon vibe from this. And that's a good thing.

The Dark Knight Rises- July 20
I am SO FREAKING EXCITED. I think I might go at midnight. Yes, I am aware this is a superhero movie. But . . . Christian Bale.

"Eh, I'll probably see this if there's nothing else out in theaters that week."

What to Expect When You're Expecting- May 18
I love a good ensemble rom-com but I feel like we've exhausted ourselves with the "child birth is gross but heart-warming" movies.

Men In Black III- May 25
Was this necessary? Maybe.

That's My Boy - June 15
The only thing that looks amazing about this is Leighton Meester's wardrobe. And I will see it for this reason alone.

Ted- July 13
I feel like this could be funny in a "I got extra points with my boyfriend for going to see this and actually laughing" kind of way.

"Dear God, you couldn't pay me to go see this movie."

Battleship- May 18
I love how the trailer says "from the Hasbro company that brought you Transformers." Everyone realizes that Hasbro is a toy company right? Absurd.

Prometheus- June 8
No. Just no.

Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter- June 22
Please no more Vampires, whether they protect Bella or the Union. I'm over it.

What summer movies have you all excited?

The Avengers, Part II

Guess what?! My very cute, clever, and creative (and bride to be!) friend Carly has written a FANTASTIC review of The Avengers upon my request!

You can check it out on her blog, All My Reasons.

Thanks Carpool!

P.S. I agree . . . the movie was missing some romantical moments. What the chances that Thor 2 will be a romantic comedy?

Movie Scene of the Day

"Crabcakes and football- that's what Maryland does!"- Wedding Crashers

On Sunday I left DC and traveled to Baltimore for another friend reunion. I learned that in addition to crabcakes and football, Maryland also does delicious cocktails, hip neighborhoods, and couples who wear matching fleece vests from Vineyard Vines.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to a Mom who is . . .

more hip than Lorelai

more stylish than Mrs. George

more sassy than Leanne Tuohy

more dedicated than Kate McAllister

and more wise than Marmee.

I love you Momsie!

The Avengers Review

I feel guilty even reviewing The Avengers because I am not, and never will be, a comic book fan. There's nothing wrong with loving comic books its just . . . this blog is called Chick Flick Chic, ok?

My attempt to review the superhero movie to end all superhero movies is like when the woman sitting next to me on a plane is reading In Touch magazine from 3 months ago and tries to update me on Ryan Gosling's love life. No ma'am.

But I did see The Avengers and I did enjoy it! It was filled with action and adventure and some witty remarks here and there. Also I know this is his first time playing the Hulk but I really liked Mark Ruffalo with some muscles. And Chris Evans is cute. I know my friend Carly saw this in IMAX and could probably give you more comprehensive, more informative review.

And for the record, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are still kinda sorta together although I have this feeling that he's just that into her. Kind of like NoahCalhoun and Martha Shaw.

Poor Martha.

The Avengers, rated "PG-13," action, starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Scarlett Johansson "B"

Movie Quote of the Day

"To succeed in Washington, you need to be savvy and street-smart. I've seen plenty of polite and idealistic girls like you. They tread up and down in their high heels and went home empty handed and with blisters on their feet."- Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde

I'm in Washington for a fun little jaunt around the area. I love getting to visit with my friends who are polite and savvy, street-smart and idealisitc. Yay for friend reunions!

P.S. I forgot to pack my pink Jackie O suit. Oh well!

A Date with Elton John

I realize this is all old news, but there's a few things I need to get off my chest about celebrity couples.

First, I think its great that Brad and Angie are engaged.

But all these stories released to People mag about how Brad spent a YEAR designing the ring? Barf. I mean the the ring is huge, but sort of garish, no?

Annnd there's no set wedding date? Just get married already. As Miranda famously said,

" I have a child. (or 6!!!) The jig is up."

However I am totally obsessed with Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan for the following reasons:

1. I once read an interview in GQ where the writer snuck a peak at Channing's phone and revealed that Jenna is listed as "Baby Butt."

2. They recently performed a sexy dance routine for a benefit concert for the rainforest. After Chan danced with Elton John. Nice to know those Step Up rehearsals still come in handy.

3. Jenna planned a Dirty Dancing themed flash mob for Channing's 32 birthday! Where he pulled a total Johnny Castle and lifted her up mid song! Two stars in love acting out a chick flick ?!?! I've never been so happy.

Did you know that Jenna had a brief fling with Justin Timberlake? In fact she was the inspiration behind the mysterious brunette in the Cry Me a River music video.

I love T. Swift, but she really owes some credit to JT for not-so-subtle pop song diss.

And while we're on the topic of Justin . . . what to say about the impending nuptials with Jessica? Apparently a big summer wedding is on the horizon. Contrary to what you probably think, I really would like to see Justin end up with a nice girl . . . even if that nice girl isn't me. And Jessica is very pretty and I loved her character in Valentine's Day, especially when she was running on the treadmill while throwing candy in her mouth. I would totally do that.

But can some one tell me why Jessica insists on wearing this

and this
AND THIS.

For a double date with ELTON JOHN AND HIS HUSBAND. No need to shower or put on make up, just come straight from the gym. I mean, seriously? I'm not sure what I would wear out with Sir Elton but it might be something like this

or this

or this.

I'm sorry it's just . . . JT and Brit Brit forever! Can I get an amen?

April Showers and May Flowers

Last week I had the stomach flu and spent all day Tuesday shivering on my couch and watching classical musicals that I had saved on my DVR. It would have been really lovely, if not for the whole waves of nausea thing. In honor of April showers, here's a classic scene which I love because: it brings back fond memories of an 8th grade dance I did with my show choir, Gene Kelly is so dreamy and Jean Dujardin totally reminds me of him, and it just plain makes you smile.

And now that we're well into May flowers, I wanted to show you some floral inspired footwear I've been wearing lately. The only thing better than wearing shoes you really love is receiving compliments from people telling you that they really love the shoes that you really love. Does that make sense?

I wore these boots to run some errands and I literally had people chase me down the aisle at the grocery store to ask me about them. The woman at the checkout line said "You know should do? You should put them on Pinterest!" Wait . . . what?

Also these shoes were a huge hit at the theater. That sounds ridiculous but seriously we were at a production of Les Miserables and entire group of old women came up to me to tell me they had been admiring my heels.

Speaking of Les Mis, the movie is currently filming and the cast is filled with stars galore!! Except Taylor Swift, who lost the role of Eponine to Samantha Barks. No offense Taylor, but after watching this performance, I think its for the best. Now you can get a new album out sooner and we can finally find out what happened between you and Jake!

And for any singing and dancing you might want to do in May showers, here's a cute pair of rain boots I have my eye on.

So, there ya go. Spring footwear that will be a hit with your fellow Publix shoppers, elderly musical theater patrons, and Gene Kelly- thanks to CFC.

Happy Weekend- What Time Is It

So this is the first weekend in three years where I haven't either had something to do for grad school, or have been thinking about something I need to do for grad school. I'm done! I have that "its summer!!!!" feeling which I haven't had in forever.

Besides wrapping up my masters degree, here's what else happened this week:

I shared my getting dressed for a date tips- Gentlemen Callers
and celeb fitness tips- Just Workin on My Fitness

As for movies:
In theaters:
The Avengers opened this week. Getting great reviews. Fanboys and Fangirls rejoice!
Think Like A Man is STILL doing well.
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is also out this week. How do we feel about seeing this if you are under the age of 60?

Rental:
Let's reflect on Zac's early days as a teen idol before his all grown up love scenes in The Lucky One.
Hairspray, obviously.
17 Again is surprisingly cute and funny.
All three High School Musicals are fantastic, although the second one is by far my favorite. Thanks to Troy and the rest of the gang for expressing my feelings on wrapping up school and the start of summer!

The Five-Year Engagement Review

About half way through The Five-Year Engagement I shifted in my sheat, mindlessly nibbled on some stale popcorn, and sighed "Omg. I HATE this movie."

At the end of The Five-Year Engagement I blew my nose on the sleeve of my jacket, clapped my hands together and squealed "Omg! I LOVE this movie!"

And so my review falls somewhere in between.

First of all, it was not the goofy, raunchy, sweet movie I expected from the previews. It was much darker and more depressing.

I adored Tom and Violet as a couple but became exasperated with their never ending engagement and all of their issues. They were acting ridiculous. They were miserable. I felt miserable.

The cool thing about this was that their families and friends eventually called them out. It's rare that a movie acknowledges its faults . . . during the actual movie. Still, its not enough to atone for the moments I was bored, or annoyed, or not at all amused.

But oh, the moments were I was! There are two scenes in particular that I just loved so much I could watch them on an endless loop. The first one, a fight between Tom and Violet is really about how girls want to talk about everything that upsets them and guys would rather say nothing. It's so funny and so real. The other scene, where Violet and her sister are aruging in front of her niece . . . in Sesame street voices . . . I laughed so hard I cried.

And I'm happy to say that this movie, for better or for worse, has a happy ending.

The Five-Year Engagement, rated "R," comedy, starring Jason Segel and Emily Blunt "B-"

Just Workin on my Fitness

When it comes to my fascination with celebrities, I'm not just looking for fashion tips, I'm looking for fitness details as well. However, while starlets are more than happy to pose on the red carpet in their designer gowns, they're a little more secretive when it comes to getting in shape.

How many times have you heard a celebrity saying "I eat so much! I never diet! I don't have time to exercise, I just walk my dog occasionally!" In fact, actresses are famous for showing off their "gigantic appetite" during a lunch interview for a fashion mag. Those articles always say the same thing: "She looked casual chic in an all black ensemble and had glowing skin without a stich of makeup. She ordered scrambled eggs with extra cheese, 16 pieces of bacon, and chugged a bubba keg of beer on her way out the door."

Blake Lively once gave an interview saying that she eats pork burritos, chips, and coke before shooting lingerie scenes.

Okay. We all know she hired a trainer for The Green Lantern, and now that she's dating the fittest man alive (R. Reynolds, of course) you can bet she's keeping up with her squats.

Kate Walsh also boasted on Live! with Kelly that she did absolutely nothing to prepare for this Shape cover.

"It should be called Unshape magazine!" she laughed. " I ate a burrito right before the shoot!" I'd chalk it up to great photoshopping except she looks consistently looks smokin hot - check out those leg muscles!

There's been a lot of talk about the importance of featuring "real women" with "real bodies" in women's magazines. They suggest that we will feel bad about ourselves after seeing models, celebrities, and other superhuman beings in the media time after time.

I don't know about you, but I see real women every day. And every time I step out of the shower, there's a real woman in my bathroom mirror. If I'm reading Shape magazine, I'm certainly hoping to see an ultra fit celeb. You know makes me feels bad? Hearing stars talk about eating everything and never working out while still maintaining a toned physique. I workout most days and watch what I eat and no one has ever asked me to pose on a magazine cover.

So let's reflect on a few ladies who aren't afraid to say, thanks to LMFAO, "Girl look at that body, I work out!"

Anne Hathaway says she was working out for two hours and day and living on "kale and dust" to fit into her catwoman suit.

Gwen Stefani was quoted as saying " I am always on a diet"

And " I work hard to look this hot and I want girls to know that."

Gwyneth Paltrow works out for an hour and a half 5 days a week with the infamous Tracy Anderson- Madonna's trainer.

She also frequently goes on a 12 week (!!!!) detox.

Kelly Ripa is my fashion, fitness, and overall life idol. In a recent interview she said she works out every single day, even on vacation. She alternates between spinning, running, and "dance cardio and toning."

Also, she gave us an idea of her typical eats.
Breakfast- wheat toast and coffee
Lunch- greek yogurt and blueberries or a small salad
Dinner- small piece of fish with lots of veggies
Snacks- Pepperidge Farm goldfish- haha!

As beach season quickly approaches, I'll certainly be more aware of what I'm eating and how I'm exercising. Will I be as dedicated as these ladies? Of course not! And I won't expect my green bikini to sit quite as nice as Kelly's.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it makes me feel good to know that real women (even celebs!) have to work really hard to look really good.
