3 Thoughts About Turning 28

1.  Last night I went out for my FIVE year college reunion and I wore leather leggings.  And they ripped.  I tried to wear something trendy from Forever 21 and I split my pants.  If that's not the universe telling me I'm old, I don't know what is.

2.  Best friends send the best birthday texts.

3.  At age 28 . . .

Pippa Middleton became an overnight sensation

Reese Witherspoon won an Oscar

Sally met Harry for the second time

And Oprah moved to Chicago to host a little talk show

I think 28 is going to be a good year.

Summer Soundtrack

I know I've told you this before, but I'm a very seasonal person.  This includes food, movies, activities and obviously music.  There's something about summer that mandates you listen to great country music.  Fall is for new pop music that keeps me awake as I travel for work, winter is for classic Christmas songs and romantic Michael Buble tunes, spring is for club beats that pump you up to party when the weather's warm and summer is for wistful songs about loving life, going barefoot on the beach, and kissing goodnight on the front porch.  I am 100% that this Gloriana hit would have been my very favorite song when I was 15 years old.

And here's a few more of my favorite summertime songs . . .

Because I write a blog dedicated to chick flicks it should come as no surprise that I'm a big fan of popular music.  I'm not one to complain that a band I used to love has sold out by appearing on MTV and promoting their music on the radio.  In fact, most songs I love about 6 months after they've received  some airplay.  Anyone heard that new song, Call Me Maybe?

Just kidding.  But because I usually never hear about good music until the band has been mainstream for at least a year I have to tell you that I practically discovered Ellie Goulding.  You know Ellie Goulding whose song Lights is the number 6 song on ITunes downloads right now?

Well when I heard Ms. Goulding performed at the royal wedding I obviously needed to know everything about her.  Her songs are some of the best workout tunes out there and I made everyone I know listen to "Lights" on repeat in May of 2011.  Now that it's getting all sorts of radio play over a year later I'm like "ugh, what a sell out."  Okay not really, but you know Kate's probably like

What Makes Me Cry- Matt Lauer and the Royal Wedding

I know I've blogged about it before, but watching the Royal Wedding nearly a year ago was the greatest tv viewing experience of my life. And there's one moment I'll never forget.

As a loyal Today Show viewer since graduating from college and starting a big girl job, I was obviously tuned into the coverage on NBC. Do you remember when Kate stepped out of the car and paused, so everyone could get a great shot of the dress? She delicately took her father's hand.

Then Matt Lauer, who up until this point, had feigned complete disinterest in all of the royal hoopla, decided to say something.

"I'll only say this once" he ominously began "they have called her Waity Katie . . . and today she will wait NO MORE!!!" The last words came out booming, in a Madonnaesque faux British accent.

It was so absurd, so ridiculously out of place that you couldn't help but die laughing. Except I burst into tears.

The most embarrassing thing about all of this is that I've tried to tell this story several times.

"Omg, Matt Lauer said the dumbest thing during the Royal Wedding"

I'm giggling just thinking about it.

"For some reason he said they have called her Waity . . . Waity . . ."

My eyes fill with tears.

"Waity Katie. "

sniff. sniff.

"But today . . .she . . "

Oh hell. At this point I either after to pretend to die laughing (the appropriate response), immediately change the subject, or fake a coughing fit.

So if you ask me about my favorite part of the royal wedding, I'll probably say Pippa's dress, Harry sneaking a peak as Kate walked down the aisle, or the not one, but two kisses on the balcony.

But now you know truth. Sniff.

P.S. What else makes me cry- Dear John and Superbad

Royal Wrinkles

You know your mom is the best when, after complaining to her that you're going to need to get bangs because your wrinkles have gotten out of control, she sends you this pic in an email with the subject line: "Look at Kate's forehead!!"

If looking at pictures of the Duchess with her perfect blowout, receiving flowers from hundreds of admirers doesn't make you feel better about your aging skin, I don't know what will. But good effort, Mom!

Holiday Flair Part II

Happy December 26th! Do you have a case of the post Christmas weirds? I don't yet because I have two best friend reunions this week! Anyways, here's recap of some holiday outfits- inspired by a few of my favorite Christmas movies.

For a day at the Biltmore- fur inspired by Maureen O'Hara at the end of Miracle of 34th Street.

For dinner and a performance of A Christmas Carol- cozy scarf inspired by Amanda Woods in The Holiday.

For another holiday party- shorts and tights inspired by Vera Ellen in White Christmas. This movie really deserves an entire post for the gorgeous costumes. Perhaps next year!

Orangey red lipstick, black and white blouse inspired by Esther Smith in Meet Me in St. Louis.

And of course, side bun inspired by Ashley Greene.

For Christmas Eve- sparkly top inspired by anything festive I could find in my closet and headpiece inspired by reports that the Duchess needed to prepare FIVE outfits just for Christmas Day!
That sounds grand. The only wardrobe change I made was into my new sparkle Uggs. Thanks Handsome!
Do you like dressing up for the holidays?

Hip Pip Hooray

On April 29th, at 5:00am I was on the elliptical and watching the royal wedding. I was sweating, crying, and in a texting flurry with my mom. Then, she stepped out of the car.

"Who IS that," I typed, "Pippa?!? WOW!" A star was born!
I spent most of the spring and summer in a Middleton sister induced obsessive coma. Kate's trip to Cali! Pippa's fun single life! I couldn't get enough!
Pippa's style has recieved a lot of attention. Is she fashionable? Is she boring?

What I like about Lady Pippa is that she always looks put together. She gets up everyday and makes the effort. And isn't that more than half the battle?

One look I really loved was the darling denim dress.

I've wanted a casual denim dress since I first saw Julia wander through Italy in Eat Pray Love.

But every dress I tried on reminded me of a jumper a teacher might wear. You know, with the little apple or schoolhouse designs? (Not you of course Lauren, or Jo, or any other teacher who might be reading this!) At long last, I found this dress at Forever 21 and wore it all summer long!

Farewell, summer! tear . . .

What I love the most about Pippa is how freakin fit she is! She has a rockin bod and WORKS for it! Running a 5k a few weeks after her MOH duties . . .

You know who else ran a 5k this summer? Moi! and 2 minutes faster than Pippa I might add.

Oh then she compteted in a 20 mile run and 30 mile bike ride.

Me? Not so much. However I have run a full marathon before . . .

16 seconds slower than oprah.

I don't want to talk about it.
