I must confess

Well, I have two confessions to make to all 8 people who read this blog.

1. I don't really like Pinterest. Shameful, I know. I understand how it works, in fact I remember reading about it a lot last Spring and thinking it sounded great! After hearing everyone talk about this fall and winter for months on end, I finally joined. And never did anything with it again. I haven't pinned a single recipe, wedding idea, hairstyle, or DIY project. Well, if I have it's by accident. I mean, it's a great idea and I even use the olden day form of Pinterest- a binder containing pages of outfits and makeup tips I've torn out of magazines over the past few years. But actually interacting on Pinterest makes me think of another to-do list I'll have trouble getting to. Will I actually make a new centerpiece for my table out of old mason jars and will I ever get to hang designer clothes in a cleverly organized closet the size of a master bedroom? Probably not. Also, what if people see what I've pinned and think I have terrible taste?! Is Pinterest going to become the knew "WTF I can't believe she thinks that looks good" social networking site. Not that I've ever said that about anyone on Facebook. Nope.

2) I finally got The Hunger Games book because I do want to see it in theaters and I've heard enough buzz about the book to know its a must-read before the movie. And . . . I don't really like it. Isn't that the worst thing you've ever heard? I mean, its interesting enough and maybe I haven't given myself time but I was expecting to be sucked in immediately. So far I feel like if I have nothing else I wanna do, I might read a few pages. Maybe I really do watch too much tv.

Not that I've gotten that off my chest I'm feeling better and less judgemental. Anything you'd like to confess tonight?

What Makes Me Cry-Dear John

In my opinion, there are two kinds of guys who really screw girls over. The first kind, you can't really blame. They're honest from the beginning. "I'm not looking for a relationship, I've got a lot going on, I'm not good with commitment." Blah, blah, blah. But because girls like to torture themselves they think, "Maybe I could be the one that makes him change . . ." Heads up ladies, this never works. Heads up guys (ha, as if you're reading this) pretend to be one of these guys and then surprise (!!) you're a good guy. Works every time, like the bend and snap. Anyways, when these guys inevitably peace out, I think girls are like "What a jackass but . . . I saw that coming."

Mr. Big was one of these guys. Carrie only landed him because that wasn't real life, that was a movie.

Then there's the other type of guys. These fellows are into girls from the beginning. They confidently talk about the future. They craft detailed, enchanting, unsolicited compliments. They remember random details and think embarrassing quirks are adorable. So what if sometimes they seem a bit weird, or they don't call when they say they will. They always have the a perfect, completely understandable excuse. So when these guys end up to be jerks it's not only incomprehensible, its incorrigible.

I just know John Mayer is one of these guys. How else has he dated every celeb hottie out there? It makes my blood boil to think of him sending whimsical bouquets of flowers, writing personalized songs, crafting the perfect text message to send while he's out of town and then giving some absurd interview to Playboy. That's why Taylor Swift's song about him, Dear John, totally gets to me.

First of all its mean. Like really, really nasty. She's not just saying "you're a jerk" she's saying "what the hell is wrong with you?!?" But then, towards the end, she sings " But I took your matches before fire could catch me so don't look now, I'm shining like fireworks over your sad empty town." I know its supposed to sound all " haha, I'm over you" but it sounds to me like she's till so, so sad. Tear.

(side note: Taylor's pretty lips and weird pantomine is a bit distracting here but I couldnt find the song to listen to that I could embed. If you're really up for a good cry, just download it.)

I just know Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz and Minka Kelly listen to this song and as they drive home from some Hollywood party and just sob and sob . . . until they pull into the driveway of their Beverly Hills Mansion.

What's On Your DVR?

I'm not sure if "What's your sign?" was ever a legitimate pick up line in the 70's or whenever but I think "Whats on your DVR?" is a much better way to get to know someone. I've actually had this convo a lot lately (not for the purpose of snagging a date) and it's a really fun way to learn a bit more about someone and what shows to add to your My Recordings list.

If you're one of those people who doesn't watch tv, I don't even want to hear about it. TV is amazing. And I have time to work, go to grad school, exercise every day, read books, blog, spend qt with friends and family and still watch some high quality tv. So, here's a recap of:

What's on my DVR

Monday:

The Bachelor/Bachelorette- I actually watched the original Bachelorette with Trista and was so dedicated that I recorded the finale ON A VHS TAPE (!!!) and watched it in first period with my friend Carly because we had a track meet the night it aired. Anyways my interest in the series has waned over the years. Two hours is a big commitment especially when at least 45 minutes are spent recapping last week or previewing "the most dramatic rose ceremony ever." But I watched this whole season and was mesmerized by Courtney. Am I in for Emily as The Bachelorette filming in Charlotte?!?! Obvi.

Gossip Girl- Sadly, GG has completely gone of the deep end but I continue to watch. The clothes are so pretty. Leighton and Blake are so pretty. Penn Badgely's hair is pretty?! Dear Gossip Girl, I wish I knew how to quit you. XOXO, CFC

Tuesday:

New Girl- When it's good, its cute witty, and a little bit weird. When it's bad, it's just weird. We'll see how this season goes.

Parenthood- If you choose one show to add to your weekly viewing, pick Parenthood. Its just GREAT show with a stellar cast. Lucky for you the season just ended so you have all summer to get to know the Bravermans via Netflix before the third season.

Wednesday:

Modern Family- There's a reason Modern Fam has been an awards show darling. Also, Cameron Tucker is my imaginary gay best friend.

Happy Endings-
This show is funny but exhausting. It's become so wacky that its hard to imagine spending more than 30 minutes a week with these people. Since they're not my friends but tv characters (obviously) I still enjoy this show.

Thursday:

30 Rock- 30 Rock is so full of obscure pop culture references that I feel like it was written just for me. Except when I don't get one and then I'm like "Ugh, this show is so weird." Also Alec Baldwin.

Friday:

Fashion Police- I LOVE FASHION POLICE. It's completely ridiculous but it's also the only weekly roundup for celeb fashion on tv. Clearly I'm watching.

Everyday:

Live! with Kelly- I record this Monday through Friday. I usually watch it during lunch or when I get home from work. I loved Regis. I love Kelly. To me, watching Live! is like brushing my teeth or drinking tea every morning. It's an integral part of my day.

Movies:

On my DVR I usually have at least one kids movie I not-so-secretly love (today it's The Princess and the Frog,) one recent fave (currently The Blind Side) and at least three old movies ( as of late, Where the Boys Are, Some Like it Hot, and A Family Affair.) I don't know, I'm weird like that.

What Makes Me Cry- Superbad

In Mindy Kaling's completely awesome book, she wrote this sweet little chapter about "non-traumatic" things that make her cry. Because I'm one of those annoying people who interrupts your story to tell you how it relates to me, I immediately started making my own crying list before I finished the first paragraph. I also started making a "things that make me happy" list because I think that's what Oprah would do.

Now obviously I cry at the ending of most romantic comedies, any holiday Hallmark commercials, and when I mess up the wing of my eyeliner when I'm already 10 minutes late. But there's a few completely random pop culture moments that just make me lose it.

Like this scene from Superbad. First of all I LOVE Superbad in all its raunchy, dorky glory. It's without a doubt one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. But I also love this scene between Jonah Hill as Seth and Emma Stone as Jules. Seth is crying because the night hasn't gone as planned and that's just so high school. Every night and every moment seems like your last chance to really make something happen. When you're a senior in high school you have so much freedom but you're not at all independent. You feel kind of helpless and a lot of times hopeless -which is how Seth feels here. And that's why a drunken rant in a gross-out movie (starring two 2012 Oscar nominees!) makes me tear up.

Does anyone else feel like New Girl got back to its original hilarious self last Thursday? Maybe it was the addition of Dermot Mulroney, aka Mr. Fancypants, aka George Downes.

Friends with Kids Review

Since Mad Men fever seems to have reached an all time high right now I thought we'd talk about Jon Hamm. Actually we're going to talk about Jon Hamm's girlfriend, Jennifer Westfeldt. Jon and Jennifer have been together for 15 years! They're not married and they don't have kids but they do have a dog, Cora, and you can often see the whole family out for a walk. A few years ago, Jon and Jennifer started to notice that all of their couple friends were having kids and then disappearing from their lives. Jennifer decided to write, direct, and produce a movie about what happens to friends when they have kids.

I mention this backstory not only because its interesting but because its very relevant to the movie, which is supported by some incredibly realistic dailogue. I'm pretty sure if you are friends with Jon and Jennifer you will probably see one of your tense conversations acted out on screen Jennifer plays Julie and Adam Scott is her best guy friend, Jason. They want to have kids, but want to avoid the stress it creates on a romantic relationship, as witnessed with their couple friends. The couples are played by Chris O'Dowd, Maya Rudolph, Jon Hamm, and Kristen Wiig. Basically the cast of Bridesmaids! No big deal.

Friends with Kids was funny but very poignant. I found myself getting stressed out for the characters, and at times just sad. Adam Scott is charming and but so heartbreaking . . . when he tears up during the last scene, I noticed myself doing the same.

For a film so grounded in real conversations, I didn't really buy the main relationship. I mean they were super cute together, but in what world do two attractive people remain completely platonic for years without even a drunken hookup? And then they can conceive a child but still not get together for a few years? Also he calls her "doll" which is very sweet but I'm pretty sure that's just for the Kardashians and imaginary gay best friends.

However, if you like When Harry Met Sally or Steve and Miranda in the first part of SATC season 6, you 'll like this movie. And if you don't . . . why are you reading this blog?
