After vowing to shut down CFC in 2013 but failing to do so, I wondered what would make me blog again. As it turns out, it wasn't the announcement of Baby Kimye . . .
I mean... I can't even...
bringing sexy back . . .
yep. definitely back.
or Oscar fashion.
For the record my faves were Amy Adams because she looked ethereal and bridal-
And Jen because the fancy dress and sleek modern hair is exactly how I envision my bridesmaids!
But its this weird story about T Swift get all offended by a (very funny IMO) joke at the Golden Globes. I love Taylor AND Tina AND Amy, so this is a tough one. But honestly, this is like telling your well meaning but brutally honest friend that she's a bad feminist because she told you to cool it with the boy craziness. And really, there are better times to use that (totally awesome IMO) quote
Speaking of which, I just finished watching an amazing documentary on PBS called Makers: Women Who Make America. You can watch all three parts online and I recommend doing so immediately. It's narrated by Meryl Streep. And its just SO great.
Mean girls aside, Tina's new movie comes out on March 22. I'll be at Taylor's concert on March 23. I'll try to stay out of the drama.
That's all I've got for now . . . and possibly the next 3 months.
By now, we've all heard the joyous news that our girl Jen is engaged!! Of course all the celeb news outlets are freaking out. Although I'm sure she's like "cool it guys."
She's the most (perhaps only?) successful Friend
has THE hottest body in Hollywood
was married to Brad when he looked like this
and not this
and always looks effortlessly stylish.
But all anyone cares about is "Will Jen find love again?" And now that's she's getting married maybe we can all calm down a bit.
But I do want everyone to be aware that her fiance had a few flings with Ms. Bradshaw. First as the guy Carrie flirts with before she drags Mr. Big downtown to ask her if he wants to "stand still."
And then he showed up as Vaughn, the writer with the great mom, who . . . umm . . specialized in "short stories."
Jen is my pretend celebrity bff and I will always think she is impossibly cool- married or not. So while I actually squealed out loud when I read that she was engaged, I reminded myself that this wasn't the only great thing to happen in her life.
And as for Justin, he's been writing the scripts of full-length features Iron Man 2, Rock of Ages and Zoolander 2. So I guess he's got that short story thing under control.
In my opinion, there are two kinds of guys who really screw girls over. The first kind, you can't really blame. They're honest from the beginning. "I'm not looking for a relationship, I've got a lot going on, I'm not good with commitment." Blah, blah, blah. But because girls like to torture themselves they think, "Maybe I could be the one that makes him change . . ." Heads up ladies, this never works. Heads up guys (ha, as if you're reading this) pretend to be one of these guys and then surprise (!!) you're a good guy. Works every time, like the bend and snap. Anyways, when these guys inevitably peace out, I think girls are like "What a jackass but . . . I saw that coming."
Mr. Big was one of these guys. Carrie only landed him because that wasn't real life, that was a movie.
Then there's the other type of guys. These fellows are into girls from the beginning. They confidently talk about the future. They craft detailed, enchanting, unsolicited compliments. They remember random details and think embarrassing quirks are adorable. So what if sometimes they seem a bit weird, or they don't call when they say they will. They always have the a perfect, completely understandable excuse. So when these guys end up to be jerks it's not only incomprehensible, its incorrigible.
I just know John Mayer is one of these guys. How else has he dated every celeb hottie out there? It makes my blood boil to think of him sending whimsical bouquets of flowers, writing personalized songs, crafting the perfect text message to send while he's out of town and then giving some absurd interview to Playboy. That's why Taylor Swift's song about him, Dear John, totally gets to me.
First of all its mean. Like really, really nasty. She's not just saying "you're a jerk" she's saying "what the hell is wrong with you?!?" But then, towards the end, she sings " But I took your matches before fire could catch me so don't look now, I'm shining like fireworks over your sad empty town." I know its supposed to sound all " haha, I'm over you" but it sounds to me like she's till so, so sad. Tear.
(side note: Taylor's pretty lips and weird pantomine is a bit distracting here but I couldnt find the song to listen to that I could embed. If you're really up for a good cry, just download it.)
I just know Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz and Minka Kelly listen to this song and as they drive home from some Hollywood party and just sob and sob . . . until they pull into the driveway of their Beverly Hills Mansion.
I think one of life's greatest pleasures is recognizing a place I've visited in a movie scene. This is totally different from visiting a place that was featured in a movie. Does that make sense? This is one reason why I'm excited to see Magic Mike, filmed in my hometown. I might also be excited because Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey play male strippers so . . . yeah.
Anyways, I was thinking of this during my trip to South Florida last week. In 2008, I visited that area for the first time- a few months before Marley and Me was released. I knew the movie was filmed in Miami and Fort Lauderdale so I was prepared to see the movie and of course had to read the book first.
I happened to reach the saddest part of the book (and if you've read it you know what I'm talking about) on a flight to Florida. Apparently a girl (woman? not to get all B. Spears but it seems weird to refer to myself as a woman) who is openly sobbing in the back of a plane is quite alarming to the flight crew. I looked up to see a flight attendent rushing towards me. She got about 10 feet away and saw the cover of the book. "It's ok everyone!" she announced in relief. "She's reading Marley and Me!" All of the passengers turned towards me and nodded sympathetically as I sniffled into my book. Turns out they had also read that part.
About a month later I went to see Marley and Me and loved every minute of it! This is one of the few examples of a movie that is even better than the book. (See also, The Devil Wears Prada.) While the book is a great "man's best friend" memoir, the movie is really the story of family. I think Owen and Jen are at their absolute best here!
I loved recognizing the place I ran every day during my first trip to Hollywood Beach.
Or the neighborhoods in Boca where I got lost looking for a Starbucks.
And most of all I loved watching John Grogan and his wife grow from giddy newlyweds with a puppy, to tired parents, to the owners of a gorgeous Pennsylvania farmhouse with 3 kids from a J Crew catalog. And of course, sweet Marley.
Sometimes people tell me they don't want to see this movie because they have a dog and they think it will be too sad. But aren't the best movies the ones that make you cry?
See it for yourself and let me know. Maybe on your next flight! But if homeland security tries to take you down, you can't say I didn't warn you!
