Happy Weekend- Say Cheese!

Happy Weekend!  I'm headed to South Florida  . . .

Look of the Week:

I already wore my Kardashian inspired outfit last month in Tampa, so who knows what I'll wear this weekend.  I would LOVE to see Kim and Kourtney and baby Penelope as they take Miami yet again!

Story of the Week:

Matthew McConaughey slims down . . . way down.
"Can you touch this?" Matty asked not too long ago.  Well, I don't think anyone wants to now.  Maybe I'm getting cynical in my old age, or maybe I should start calling this the "Publicity Stunt of the Week," but I just feel like its such a waste when celebs drop all this weight for a role. First, I think its sort of disrespectful to people who are actually starving or ill.  Not to mention special effects (need I remind you that Lt. Dan didn't have legs in the 90's?!) and makeup have improved each year . .  I'm sure there were other ways to make him look sick and skinny.  But celebs feel like they have to make the sacrifice for the award nomination.  Anne Hathaway with your shorn hair and Matt with your bony cheeks . . . I hope it pays off come February.

Post of the Week:

Omg, Me Too
Yep, I only posted once this week and it was about (surprise!) Mindy Kaling.

Rental of the Week:

Magic Mike

Matty McConaughey in his meatier days . . .and my favorite movie of the summer.  It actually doesn't come out until the 23rd, but why not start counting down now?

Movie Ticket of the Week:

Argo
I've probably seen this trailer 50 times in theaters.  I'm not sure why Ben is promoting the heck out of it, as he's a well respected director these days and I'm sure it will do fine at the box office.  Still, looks good.  John Goodman is working these days. He's like in 5 movies this season alone.

Wedding Story of the Week:

Stanley Tucci and Felicity Blunt

This actually happened a few weeks ago, but after hearing Stanley discuss it on Live! with Kelly and Michael this week, I just had to gush.

So first, Stanley Tucci married Emily Blunt's sister.  Because I'm CFC, I believe that Felicity is a kinder version of Emily's Devil Wears Prada character, and that Stanley is a combination of Nigel from DWP and Paul Child.

So that pretty much seems like the best couple ever?  Then today I find out . . .

Stanley has a cookbook coming out, their wedding guests included Steve Buscemi and Emily Blunt as best man and matron of honor, brother-in-law John Krasinski, Meryl Streep, Patricia Clarkson, Julianne Moore, Colin Firth and Kenneth Cole.. . . and their wedding cake was made of wheels of cheese. Best wedding ever?

Hope your weekend is filled with harem pants, male strippers, and wheels of cheese.

Magic Mike Review

Well I feel vindicated.  After repeated disappointments from the movies I was so excited about this summer, I am thrilled to report that my ticket to Magic Mike was worth every penny . . . or dollar bill stuffed into a male thong.

For months  (literally I have been talking about this movie since last fall) I've told everyone that this movie is going to be awesome.  And not just because it takes place in my hometown, and not just because Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, and Alex Pettyfer are dancing around naked.  Because I knew it was going to be more than a movie about male strippers.  And just as Joe Manganiello's character "Big D Richie" promises, it was a lot more.  Okay, enough with the stripper jokes.

Obviously the Xquisite club in Tampa featuring an all male revue is a huge part (I'm so sorry, last one) of Magic Mike and those scenes elicited more than a few squeals and cheers from the female members of the theater.  However, Olivia Munn showed up topless within the first few minutes and my boyfriend cheered for that so you know, equality all around.

But Magic Mike is also about youth, identity, partying, drugs, sex and living in Florida.  And the movie somehow manages to tackle all of these topics with humor and thoughtful consideration; sans judgement.  Many of the early reviews criticized that Magic Mike starts out as a fun romp but loses its stamina ( I guess can't stop making sex jokes) once the plot takes a dark, drug-filled twist.  I completely disagree.  This is what keeps the movie gritty and compelling.  Without these conflicts, Magic Mike would simply be a more naked version of Step Up.  Which, come to think of it, is a pretty good idea.

Unfortunately Magic Mike was marketed as a movie for tipsy women to watch with their friends and fantasize about the hot guys on screen.  That sounds like a blast, but if you strip away (I'm on a roll!) the gratuitous shots of butts and biceps, Magic Mike is about guys drinking on the beach by day, and partying with girls who want to rip their clothes off by night.  As Mike explains, its all about "women, money, and a good time."  Sounds more like a man's fantasy to me.  But I loved having a front row seat to the show.

Magic Mike, rated "R," comedy/drama, starring Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey and Cody Horn "A-"

In The News This Morning

Well it seems the umm, "excitement" surrounding Magic Mike has reached it's err, "peak." And I'd like to remind everyone that I posted about this way back in October.  My hilarious friend Scott texted me this yesterday

And then Channing appeared on the Today show for a charming interview and then an absurd flash mob set to It's Raining Men.

I desperately wish there was a bachelorette party to go to this weekend.  Smuggling wine into the theater seems like the perfect way to start the night.

Anyways, I told my mom I'd go see Magic Mike with her.  Is that awkward?  Probably not as awkward as Al Roker grinding on an about-to-be-fired Ann Curry.

And that's what's happening in your neck of the woods.
